It scavenges 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals and inhibits cupric ion-induced lipid peroxidation of human LDL. Astringin inhibits development of preneoplastic lesions induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) in mouse mammary glands.
